A simple system of self-defence

I see self-defence as a chain.

Each link of that chain being an opportunity to take an action to defend ourselves or those closest to us.

The links are as follows: awareness, avoidance, prevention, de-escalation, a defensive action, then finally, fight and escape.

Within each link there are opportunities to defend ourselves, depending on the challenge in front of us.

Training and knowledge offers us solutions to each link of the chain - giving us the skills to recognise the impending problem and react with the appropriate solution. But it all starts with the belief you are worth defending.

Know your boundaries and be aware

Learning the skills to defend yourself is not just centred around fighting skills; it’s also about prevention and avoidance - being aware of the situations, threat assessment - recognising a problem before it happens, improving your ability to respond quickly and solving that problem whilst under stress.

Overcoming problems whilst under stress

Determination and having a positive mindset are important tools in stress management. In training we are learning to recognise potential problems (we need to understand how violence happens to deal with it), breaking our natural freezing reaction, switching from prey to predator and acting correctly. We have to deal with the threat front of you and adapt to what you see.

The right tool for the job.

Whether it is knowing the right thing to say to de-escalate a situation or how to escape from for a common hold or a grab, you will learn the key skills to get away safely and fast.

I teach self-defence I use the principals of Krav Maga

Krav Maga is a simple modern self-defence system it gives you the skills to defend yourself against all kinds of threats and attacks. But it’s not just physical; Krav Maga will also increase your awareness and teach you how to deal with confrontation, as well as giving you the confidence to walk away or fight back if needed.

  • Tried and tested solutions

  • Easy to learn in a short space of time

  • Good for all fitness levels

  • Suitable for all ages

  • Great fun and confidence-building

It works. Here's how

The techniques are based on natural behaviour and an essential part of this tactical system is it's teaching process, which makes it quick and easy to learn. How we react under stress, varies from person to person, it is based on our knowledge and experiences. When we are under stress our motor skills break down - Krav Maga is based on simple movements learned in a repetition so they become instinctive.

In training we aim to understand the limitations of the individual

Size, power and mindset, matched against a more dominant opponent. The self-defence training does not rely on size or strength – so it can be used effectively by men and women of all age. Knowledge is power, we are (in training)  trying to override the freezing response in the quickest way. Without realising we assess, adapt, respond and move.
